Flash comment: Latvia - CPI May 2020
Deflation is here: Prices down by 0.6%

  • Prices of goods fell by 1.6%
  • Prices of services rose by 1.8%

Despite the signs of weakness prices of services maintained the positive rate of change.

But prices of goods plunged deeper in the negative area. Prices of transport decreased significantly due to fuel that lost ¼ of price over a year. Clothing and footwear stepped further into negative area likely due to poor demand.

Important to know: the data of the “fragile” sectors affected by the pandemic were still incomplete in May due to furlough.
